JEMA’s Design for SCC Showcases Teaching and Learning; Inspires Future Students

A planning, architecture, and interior design firm located in St. Louis.
JEMA is the architect and interior designer of St. Charles Community College‘s new Regional Workforce Innovation Center, a 48,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art technical education facility where students will be able to study everything from renewable energy development and cybersecurity to robotics and software engineering. As reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, college officials see this new addition as the future of vocational education. “This campus and this college is all about helping to meet the workforce needs of our region’s employers,” says SCC’s Vice President of Academic Affairs, Amy Koehler.
JEMA’s design for the building allows a prospective student to see it all – the curriculum, the campus, a class and a teacher – as part of the journey through the building. The circulation through the building has been carefully crafted to offer vistas and glimpses into every class, shop, lab, conference room, and office. The new building, a literal “showcase” for the exposition of teaching and learning, seeks to move and inspire the future student.
The project is the first building on SCC’s new 55-acre “showcase campus” located in Wentzville, MO. Construction is slated to begin 4th quarter 2023.
