A Bustling Building

JEMA unveils the interior design for St. Louis Community College‘s new Florissant Valley Advanced Manufacturing Center. The design concept integrates the ideas of a “main street” and a “town square.” The “main street” is a wide hall that provides space for exhibition of student projects, connects the building from West to East, and terminates into a tiered student-scape. The idea of a traditional town square is deconstructed and stacked vertically as a series of halls that overlook a central 3-story open atrium. Floating in the center of the vertical town square and above the main street are the building’s makerspace and 3D printer lab. The “main street” and “town square” are woven together – creating a bustling and dynamic educational space for students and faculty alike.
