Ballwin On The Park

JEMA’s new design for Ballwin, Missouri‘s Police Headquarters is located directly adjacent to Vlasis Park, one of the city’s most beloved and frequented parks. Ballwin’s City Hall is also located right next to the park. The idea to surround Vlasis Park with civic buildings is unique and purposeful.

The intentional placement of civic function and community life together around a neighborhood treasure creates a communal atmosphere that is connected to nature and is unlike any other in St. Louis. Coalescing around Vlasis Park, the Police HQ and City Hall “hold” the park and serve as a civic backdrop for families and neighbors enjoying their leisure time.

Even though the new Police HQ is a Category IV Mission Critical facility and highly secure, JEMA’s design ensures that it is still inviting to the community. The lobby is open and leads directly to a community gathering space that also doubles as a police training center. The 38,000 sq. ft. building includes a 2-bay sally port, processing and detention center, fitness center, patrol and investigations areas, and a state-of-the-art dispatch center. The lower level is partially embedded into the site, creating secure parking for fleet and specialty vehicles as well as a safe haven for high wind storms and seismic events.
