Good Shepherd Cuts Ribbon On New Start For Children In North St. Louis
Good Shepherd Preschool & Infant/Toddler Center’s highly anticipated opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting amid jubilant applause and cheers. KSDK, Fox 2, and the St. Louis Business Journal reported on the event, featuring Cortaiga Collins – owner of the new $3.2 million state-of-the-art facility – who is taking aim at the education gap in North St. Louis. JEMA’s design for the transformative 7,000 sq. ft. early childhood center suits the context of the surrounding neighborhood with a one-story brick building. At the same time, it takes the center to bright, new heights with a playful roofline and clerestory windows that bring natural light into every classroom. Additionally, the design includes a nature playground with outdoor classrooms, an indoor teaching kitchen, a therapy room, and a lactation room for new mothers.
“We want to rebuild this community,” says Collins. “Access to high quality early childhood education is the greatest way to do that.”
