JEMA Designs First Beer Garden Of Its Kind In St. Louis

KMOV4 and St. Louis Magazine reported on Saturday that the new Rockwell Beer Garden, the first of its kind in St. Louis, will open this summer in Francis Park.  Per Chris Hulse and James Sanders, Rockwell co-owners, this multi-faceted food-and-beverage concept located inside a public park aims to reactivate the park as a community space using the family-centric beer garden as the anchor.

Popular locally-owned craft brewery Rockwell Beer Company is known for good food and great beer.  It is easily recognized by the brightly colored recycled shipping containers that JEMA designed for its flagship location in The Grove.  JEMA was honored to create the AIA award-winning design of the original location.  We’re now thrilled to partner on another project that will have a transformative effect on the surrounding area.

A historic existing structure within the park will be renovated to become the hub for the large, open-air beer garden with patios wrapping around the building.  Originally a 1929 era “comfort center” intended to provide respite for park visitors, the building will be restored to much of its original appearance.

“Part of a good quality of life is good coffee in the morning and beer at night,” Hulse told St. Louis Magazine.
