STLCC Advanced Manufacturing Center Opens

Congratulations to St. Louis Community College on the ribbon cutting of its new Advanced Manufacturing Center on the Florissant Valley campus.
“Is this a cathedral or a manufacturing building?”, asked Dr. Jeff Pittman, Chancellor of St. Louis Community College, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Of course, we loved hearing that question because it highlights the key features of the building: light, height, and gathering. The building is conceived as the intersection of two concepts: a Main Street and a Town Square. The Main Street takes the form of a ground-level gallery that extends the entire length of the building and terminates at the building’s main entry. Like a Main Street, the gallery hall will act as a linear space where students can display their newest creations. The Town Square takes the form of a 3-level atrium surrounded by overlooks, computer labs, makers spaces, a student break area, the main lobby, and a cascading communal gathering grandstand. Above this 3D Town Square is a large skylight that floods the interior with daylight. The light, height, and gathering of students and staff alike offer a cathedral-like experience…but it is a manufacturing building. The new 96,000 square-foot,  3-story building brings manufacturing, engineering, technology, and technical trades all under one roof at the Florissant Valley campus, creating an essential hub for the development of St. Louis’ workforce.
