A Room With a View
St. Louis Community College’s new Advanced Manufacturing Center features Missouri’s largest outdoor classroom…and it happens to be on the building’s roof.
The 100,000 sq. Ft., 3 story structure has two outdoor learning centers equaling 10,752 sq. Ft.
Multiple decades of research have shown that students learn more effectively when they have access to and views of nature. Research also tells us that exposure to daylight is another critical ingredient in a student’s academic success. JEMA’s design places 2 classrooms not only outside, but on top of the new building. Roof top landscaping is carefully located to create shade for the students and faculty. The two roof top terraces are part of STLCC’s commitment to creating educational environments that foster and support a student’s success.
