JEMA presents at the USGBC

Jon Emert and Jon McKee of JEMA presented the design of the Maplewood Fire Station to the Missouri Gateway Chapter of the USGBC this week. The new fire station will be the first LEED fire station in St. Louis, MO.

The building design will achieve LEED Silver (Version 4) certification and will employ numerous sustainable measures including:

• an electric car charging station

• pervious paving

• indigenous landscaping with no irrigation system

• low flow plumbing fixtures

• advanced metering to monitor the building’s energy use

• high efficiency mechanical systems

• green interior finishes

The “postage stamp” size site with a severe slope from south to north presented many challenges. JEMA’s design “cuts” the site into 2 levels and introduces a linear “spine” that organizes the apparatus bay to the south and the living quarters and administration to the north.
