JEMA and Blackline Construction teamed up with Gringo to create a unique restaurant in the heart of the Central West End. The owners described their design intent as “a re-imagined mid-century Baja surf lodge.” The restaurant design involved a complete gut renovation of a former antique store, including lowering the existing basement level to create a lower level dining area. Special structural engineering was required to support the existing column and wall foundations.
JEMA created a neutral palette of hard woods on the floor, bar, and table tops, which contrast with the colorful furniture and artwork creating a bit of baja beach environment for St. Louisans. The dining areas wrap around the twelve-foot-tall glass storefront that turns the street corner and provides amazing views from both the interior and exterior of the space.
