STLCC Florissant Valley Campus Student Library

The new Student Library at St. Louis Community College’s Florissant Valley Campus transforms a former shop space into a vibrant, student-centered academic hub. Positioned along the southern edge of campus, the approximately 20,000-square-foot facility establishes a welcoming front door for learning, research, and collaboration.

The design is organized around a clear and intuitive spatial sequence beginning with a light-filled entry lobby. A prominent circulation desk anchors this space, serving as both a functional resource and a visual focal point that immediately orients users. Beyond, a grand reading room forms the heart of the library—an open, daylit environment dedicated to quiet study and reflection.

Supporting this central space is a diverse mix of program elements that respond to a wide range of student needs. Individual and group study rooms, private computer workstations, and conference spaces provide areas for focused work and collaboration, while collections and periodical areas reinforce the library’s academic mission. Together, these components create a layered and flexible environment that supports both independent study and shared learning experiences.

The library’s adaptive reuse approach reimagines an existing campus structure, aligning with the college’s commitment to resourcefulness and long-term stewardship. Thoughtful planning and modern infrastructure allow the facility to support evolving technologies and hybrid learning models, ensuring relevance for years to come.
