Respecting and Reinventing St. Charles’ History
St. Charles’ future City Hall is being located in the center of the historic American Car Foundry (ACF) campus. The ACF first started business in the mid-1800’s and was for many decades a major manufacturing hub and the main source of all American railcars. The new civic complex, featuring the city’s administrative offices and council chamber, the historical society, 2 levels of parking, retail, a conferencing center and a new pocket park, will inhabit the re-built Passenger Coach warehouse (originally constructed in 1889). By carefully salvaging and repurposing the original brick, portions of the existing timber and key sections of the historic steel, we are respecting and reinventing the architectural legacy and history of St. Charles.
