JEMA’s Ranken Building Featured in NextSTL

JEMA’s design for Ranken Technical College’s new Manufacturing Inc. facility is featured in NEXTSTL. The new building’s concept is an educational hybrid.

We create hybrids in many other aspects of our world: food (fruit and vegetables) and now automobiles: why not architecture? The new building is part office, part classroom, part workshop and part laboratory. It brings together all the spaces, flexibility and technology that the students require for their micro-enterprise apprenticeships.

“Microenterprises are reverse apprenticeships in which companies partner with a school to bring product lines onto campus, hiring and training students to do the work. Students are paid hourly wages while earning college credit. Ranken currently has 10 microenterprises. With the new facility, they are expected to produce an estimated $4 million worth of products and services annually. The new facility will allow for continued expansion of microenterprises at the school and will employ between 80 and 100 students.”
