Ranken & JEMA Team Up
Ranken Technical College and JEMA have teamed up once again. The project is called Manufacturing Inc., and is located on Ranken’s city campus. The new site is east of their main campus and expands the school’s footprint on the north side of St. Louis. The building is a 26,000 sq. ft. high-tech incubator and training center based on Ranken’s novel microenterprise concept.
The new building will provide students an integrated work-based experience which provides work experience, industrial training, certifications, college credit and/or part time salary. The operation will directly support pre-apprentice training, apprenticeship training and entrepreneurial start-ups, as well established industries. Additionally, several training programs will utilize the facility. Initial employment will be 80-100 students.
Participating industries receive low cost manufacturing services/products, while directly participating in training/education of potential future employees. Beyond the application of fundamental technology skills, advanced students will participate in the operation of the work cell including areas of logistics, human resources, finance, and quality assurance. Long term sustainability would be provided from revenues generated from production (approximately $4M annually) from student workforce. It is a win-win for all participants!
