Urban Sprouts Cuts Their Ribbon

Urban Sprouts Child Development Center recently celebrated the opening of their new facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event marks a significant achievement for Urban Sprouts as they consolidate from two smaller facilities into one new home in University City, MO.

The pedagogical philosophy of Urban Sprouts is Reggio-Emilia. It is an educational philosophy developed by Loris Malaguzzi in the town of Reggio-Emilia, Italy. The program is based on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community through exploration and discovery through a self-guided curriculum. At its core is an assumption that children form their own personality during early years of development, and are endowed with multiple “languages,” through which they can express their ideas. The aim of the Reggio approach is to teach the children how to use these symbolic languages (e.g., painting, sculpting, drama) to learn about the world and themselves.
