For the first time in over thirty years, the residents of the Northeast Ambulance and Fire Protection District (NEAFD) voted to authorize the funds for a new fire station headquarters. NEAFD, which serves seventeen municipalities in St. Louis County including the University of Missouri St. Louis, is one of the busiest districts in all of St. Louis County.

The current Maplewood Fire Station is embedded within the city’s City Hall and Police Station municipal complex located along Manchester Road. The decades-old station is antiquated and no longer meets the needs of a modern fire-fighting force.
The new 20,500 sq. ft. facility is located on a prominent corner site at the intersection of Manchester Road and Bredell Avenue.

In 2012, the city acquired St. Theresa of Caluctta Church and Grade School intending to transform the 1960s building into their new Community Center. Ferguson hired JEMA to plan, program, and design the first dedicated Community Center in the city’s 120-year history.
